The National Air and Space Museum was one of the best-organized air and space museums we’ve visited.

While not as expansive as The Houston Space Center or The Museum of Flight, one thing that the National Air and Space Museum can brag about is the sheer number of historic relics.

Most large air and space museums will have models or reproductions of the Wright Flier. This museum has the actual restored aircraft, as well as the only remaining pieces of their experimental gliders. The National Air and Space Museum had Neil Armstrong’s flight suit on display and the Apollo 11 Command Module. And so much more!

While they had a lot of displays, the museum was mostly closed due to major renovations going on. Even with this limitation, all the exhibits were amazingly well done. All the video presentations were perfectly timed. Long enough to give good information, but short enough that one didn’t feel compelled to sit down. Informational plaques were brief but to the point. There were also many things to touch and interact with from casts of artifacts to “keeper talks” and interactive displays.

The museum wasn’t just home to historic aircraft. Much to our surprise, they had the actual X-wing model used in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker!

When we visit DC again, we look forward to another visit to see what other treasures are hiding behind the renovation curtains!
