Texas doesn’t have any of the public lands we’ve come to love in the Southwest. However, it does have a fun assortment of free camping opportunities! One such opportunity is SeaBee Park in Abilene, Texas.

About SeaBee Park

Just outside of Abilene, Texas, and adjacent to a spur of Lake Fort Phantom Hill, SeaBee Park has a surprising amount to offer. One can go birding on the lake shore, launch their own boats, or, our favorite, camp. SeaBee Park allows one to camp for free for up to two nights in one of the 4 camping spots!

The bus parked comfortably at SeaBee Park.

The spots are all mostly level, packed dirt, with fire pits, covered picnic tables, trash cans, and a street light. All the spots are tucked back and surrounded by trees. This gives great privacy if one needs to do some subtle work on their rigs, or just wants to go unseen for a bit. The main part of the park has some bathrooms but otherwise, there are no amenities. While we were there, we found a lot of trash in and around our spot. The kids spent the better part of our stay cleaning up. It’s always best practice to leave a spot better than when you got there!

And though we didn’t see anyone use it while we were there, SeaBee Park also hosts a model aircraft field. Perfect if one needs to brush up on their drone skills.

Amenities Around Abilene

SeaBee Park is just a few minutes outside of Abilene, TX, with plenty of stores and shops to help one resupply while passing through. While we didn’t need to dump or get water, there was a pilot truck stop just to the west of town with RV lanes that are an absolute blessing when you’re a large rig!

If you’re passing through North Texas and need a place to cool off for a few days, you’d be hard-pressed to beat SeaBee Park!
