While we by far prefer to boondock, we’ve stayed in a couple of RV parks and resorts on our travels. Rivers Edge RV Resort in Winterhaven, California, is one of the latter. We stayed here for about a week during the Fulltime Families West Coast Family Reunion in the spring of ’25.
What to Expect at River’s Edge RV Resort
River’s Edge RV Resort is unique (to us) for an RV park, as it used to be a retirement community. As such, many of the RVs throughout the facility are more akin to tiny houses, with special rules in the rental agreements about getting management permission and proper permits before adding structures to one’s lot. Despite this, several years ago, they opened their doors to families on the road. This unique setting was kind of great for both parties during the event.
The kids got to run around and get up to shenanigans under the watchful and happy eyes of scores of abuelas, opas, and other assorted grandparently eyes. At the same time, many older people appreciate watching kids at play.

The amenities at River’s Edge RV Resort are fairly unique as well. There’s a fairly empty clubhouse, but with benches and chairs for group activities or other community interactions. They also have a card room with poker tables and billiards, a small lending library, and a pool. The pool, however, is only 5 feet deep, designed more for senior water aerobics than serious water play. Outside, they have a jungle gym, a gaga ball pit, and even a large chessboard with 2-foot-tall pieces!
Other than those, the RV facilities are well-maintained, fairly level, and easy for big rigs to get to. For needs other than power and water, the site has several spacious bathhouses and even a laundromat on site.
Mom here: I think Dad forgot what a hassle it was to back up into our site. The sites were not well marked so we first started trying for the spot next to ours. Also, the road is rather narrow. I guarded the rig across from us to make sure we didn’t run into them while one kid guarded the utilities and the other stood in the spot as a target. Once we were in, our 40’ bus barely fit, especially once we parked the car in front.
Things To Do Around Rivers Edge RV Resort
Rivers Edge RV Resort is just off of I-8 and thus very convenient to Yuma, Arizona. This gave us the opportunity to explore the Yuma Territorial Prison as part of the Fulltime Families field trip, as well as all the attractions, events, and sundries one can find in Yuma, Arizona.
Whether you’re passing through and need a break, attending events, or snowbirding, Rivers Edge RV Resort may be just what you need.
