While we were at Jauqes Rolling Wheels DIY, we had an opportunity to explore a lot of the local area. One of the gems we found was the Route 66 Museum in Lebanon.

The museum is located inside the Lebanon Library, and while small, was fascinating, and most importantly, FREE!
Inside, we were delighted to find a treasure trove of information and artifacts from the area back when Route 66 was THE way to go if motorists were traveling from Chicago to LA. Almost every town along “America’s Mother Road” was dedicated to catering to the motoring public.

One of my favorite displays was a giant diorama of the intersection of Route 66 and the main road through Lebanon.
I particularly loved the “Cabin Motels,” where drivers could rent a little cabin for a night or two. These even had extensive garage facilities where one could get their car maintained, too!

Overall this was a great experience for people living on the road. It was a bit of a glimpse into the past of our nomadic forefathers. Additionally, its smattering of American history, old technology, local legends, and history is sure to light a fire of curiosity in you and your littles to explore further. If you’re passing through Lebanon, Missouri, be sure to give the Route 66 Museum a try!
