Our parking spot at Lake Corpus Christi State Park.

Our last stop before our winter layover, and only the second time we have paid to park. Lake Corpus Christi State Park is a sprawling park cupped around one end of Lake Corpus Christi. Available RV amenities include water, power with 50A, 30A, and 20A receptacles, and an easy-to-access dump station. Our spot only cost $20 a night, and they have spots with sewer hookups for a little bit more. All camping loops are close to restrooms, though shower facilities are a little more spread out. One thing we didn’t realize on our first stop, but took full advantage of when we returned later, was the showers! Not only were they hot, but also free! Our previous experience was in Washington with camp showers that were token-based systems, which barely worked. Free hot showers were a definite plus.

The state park offers campers and day users the opportunity for nature watching, relaxing, swimming, boating, and even fishing!

Some local birds from Lake Corpus Christi

Fishing in Texas State Parks is free with admission and doesn’t require a license! The lake boasts largemouth bass, white bass, crappie, blue, several species of catfish, and sunfish. The Girl went fishing every day we were there. Didn’t catch anything, but still had fun. People were pulling crappie out of the water on both sides of us, so I blame luck.

Overall, this was a pleasant stopover for us on our sprint south. We loved it so much that we even went back as a little ‘vacation’ from staying at Resaca de la Palma. Mostly, we came back north to experience The Corpus Christi Museum of Science and History. But we also wanted to spend more time at this amazing park.

We even made enough time to get in the water a bit! The kids both have a deep love of swimming and playing in the water. It was a lot of fun getting the raft out again.

Parenting protip: Attach a bit of rope to the end of the raft and let the kids go exploring on their own (in life vests, of course)! They get to pilot the boat all by themselves, and you know they can’t drift off anywhere!

Lake Corpus Christi State park was definitely a highlight of our stay in South Texas, and will likely be another waypoint if we ever come back this way!
