As part of our plans to move south for the winter, we stayed for a month at Jacque’s Rolling Wheels DIY, outside of Hartville, Missouri. Jacque’s Rolling Wheels DIY is the first place we ever paid to camp. As a campground, it’s minimal; just a field. You pay for the networking experience of the other nomads and full-timers as you work on your rig. Most campgrounds do not allow this!
On our run south from North Dakota, we stayed a few days in the dispersed camping area in the Worthwine Island Conservation Area. The area was a bit off the beaten path, and google maps and truck maps both failed us. One had us magically transported across the map, while the other got us most of the way there and then stopped. We stayed for a few nights in Harlan, Iowa on our sprint from winter following the sugar beet harvest. This was a Boondockers Welcome spot, so it wasn’t a camping spot, but a parking spot that someone lent us for the night. Typically, Boondockers Welcome is just that, boondocking, but the individual we were staying with had some water for us (we hadn’t been able to fill up before arriving)
Just outside of Centerville, South Dakota is an adorable county park that is free to camp at. With a notable exception. A lot of the free camping webpages state that Gunderson Park is open year-round, but there is a sign at the front gate that says camping is only allowed from Memorial Day to Labor Day. During the sugar beet harvest, we got to stay “free” at the Governor’s Inn RV park in Castleton, North Dakota. This was our first time staying at a place with full hookups and it was pretty nice. Mom here, to chat with you about the sugar beet harvest. I found out about this before we left our house, and signed up for it almost a year in advance! It was supposed to be good money with lots of overtime. There are several different companies that hire for the sugar beet harvest. I worked for Express Employment, and overall, they were a good company to work for. Pay
