After our very busy time at the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta, we needed a few days to recharge our emotional batteries before setting course for our next adventure. Luckily for us, we were able to book a few nights at Coronado Campground. An easy 15-minute trek north, but a world away from the hustle and bustle.

Amenities at Coronado Campground

Coronado Campground is a no-frills mixed-use campground. The campground hosts a mix of partial hook-up sites. They have different price points depending on whether they are 50 amp, 30 amp, or 15 amp. The campground also has a large dry-camping area for tent campers.

None of the sites have sewer hookups, and the water spigots have splitters so each spigot can serve two sites. While we were there, the spigots had signs asking campers to turn off the water after dusk to prevent freezing. We elected just to partially fill our internal water, like we did in Virginia when the park we worked for had variable and dodgy water pressure.

The campground has a dump station that is very easy to get to, even in a large rig like our own. There was only the one, so a line could form if a lot of rigs left on the same day.

The lots at Coronado Campground weren’t level, but it was close. Also, they were barely deep enough for our rig and toad to fit together. For other amenities, the campground also has a modest bathhouse with a coded lock. A lot of signage at the campground leads to the feeling that it may get a lot of traffic from non-residents. We didn’t notice any problems during our short stay, but it’s something to keep in mind.

Amenities Around Coronado Campground

Being a short drive north of Albuquerque, there’s not much that can’t be done. We were able to top up our food stocks at the Walmart Supercenter as well as catch up on laundry.

Dad spent an evening at the Bosque Brewing Company catching up with an old friend, one of the hidden benefits of life on the road. So often, the people we grew up with move and are never really seen again, but moving about the country gives us the ability to see these old friends, share a tasty house-brewed beer, a story, hand-crafted signature burger, and memories of yesteryear.

So while it’s not the best campground we’ve stayed in, its price point and centrality made it a good catch for us to recover and restock, and it just might be what you need on your travels!
