On a little vacation from our stay at Resaca de la Palma State Park, we took a little side trip to Lake Casa Blanca State Park in Laredo, TX.

Tad Cooper parked at our spot

This sprawling park, just outside of Laredo, Texas, is wrapped around the south end of Lake Casa Blanca. It hosts a small network of hiking and biking trails, as well as tons of day-use areas for fishing, swimming, boating, and more!

While we were there, a lot of the camp bathrooms and facilities were closed for renovation. This included the fishing pier adjacent to our camping area. While there were a few swimming beaches in our area of the park, they were awkwardly placed and looked like one had to walk through campsites to get to them.

While Mom was off at the local laundromat, the kids and I went to look for a swimming beach. Unfortunately, we weren’t able to find one. We did, however, find this cool chapel-like building that, according to the park map, was a retired museum. Looking in the windows, it was full of signage and roadblock hardware. Still looked cool from the outside.

We never did find a good swimming spot.

Though we weren’t able to fish or swim, the spot did open up the Larado area for us to explore! Our adventures here included the Laredo Water Museum and the Imaginarium. And most important of all:

The route was simple enough that it gave Mom the confidence to get some wheel time in the bus! So, Lake Casa Blanca State Park wasn’t a total bust after all!
