Free camping isn’t too hard to find. But free camping with hookups is a rare treat. Our first ever time hooking up was at such a place, but that only had electricity. Rodeo Campground in Lamesa, Texas has electricity and water!

This is another example of us spending a little less time behind the camera, and we got no pictures of this location. Google did, though.
About Rodeo Campground
Calling Rodeo Campground a campground is a bit of a stretch as it’s just a line of parking slips to one side of Forest Park. Most of the slips have poles for 30-amp and 50-amp shore power. There is also a communal waste dump as well as a potable hose. According to the Lamesa Parks Department web page, one can stay free at the campground for 4 days, then it’s $20 a day, paid to the park superintendent. We only stayed 2 nights so can’t say how well this is enforced. Another drawback to this location is the slips are not remotely level and may test the limits of your leveling ability.
The campground, being in their city park, does have access to all the park’s amenities, including a playground, seasonal bathrooms, and a disc golf course. This makes it a decent place to let your kids run off and explore while the adults get themselves sorted out.
Things to do in Lamesa
While we didn’t go into town except to top up our groceries, Lamesa does have a few attractions that you may be able to take in. The RV park is close to the Lamesa Rodeo Grounds so your trip could coincide with hosted events. There’s also a museum in the city as well as other things one could expect to find in a medium-sized city.
For the price of admission and the convenience of free utilities, Lamesa Rodeo Campground is worth the stop on your next trip across Texas.
