While running up the Pacific Coast Highway, we found a distinct lack of public lands to stay at. While we’re no strangers to paying for a stay, we try to avoid it, unless it opens up opportunities for us. South Beach State Park, while a little expensive, allowed us to empty our tanks, top up the water, and even visit an amazing aquarium!

Amenities at South Beach State Park

South Beach State Park is a no-frills mixed-use park. The main draw is the park is beach adjacent. All the RV sites are partial hookups, with 30-amp power and fresh water. For dumping, there is a single-lane dump station near the exit. Getting to it, especially if there is a line, requires a bit of fancy maneuvering, but it is doable. There are also several bathhouses on site with hot showers, some playgrounds, and miles of walking trails, both to the beach and through the park.

Around the park, there are several grocery stores, laundry facilities, and other places to restock, refuel, and refresh. The area itself is very touristy, so there are many attractions in town and in the area, both seasonally and year-round.

Whether you’re passing through or looking for a family vacation in the area, South Beach State Park is a viable target and well worth the trip.
