While we stayed at Jacques Rolling Wheels DIY, we had the opportunity to explore the region. One opportunity we capitalized on was Spookfest!
This family-friendly Halloween event was hosted by the local medical group Jordan Valley Community Health at the spacious Rutledge-Wilson Farm Park in Springfield, Missouri.
The event very much had a carnival feel with game booths for little kids, balloon animals, hay rides, and even a corn maze!
The best part of all, this event was completely free!

This 205-acre learning farm was perfectly suited to this even with lots of space, a ton of parking, and really easy to get to.

As soon as we got there, the kids got free Swag Bags with foam masks, glow stick bracelets, and a pumpkin pass to collect a free carving pumpkin. As we walked around the farm, there were dozens of “Trick-or-Treat Stations” where the kids got candy to put in their bags! They also had classic carnival games, like ring tosses, cake walks, and fun-themed races. All these games were set up so no one really lost!
Later on, we found out that they had free hotdogs, chips, and water bottles as well. There was some pizza, but it disappeared quickly.
One of my favorite moments was when the kids rode on a little tractor train around the cornfield…

…because it reminded me of a similar trip, back when The Boy was in pre-school.

They’ve grown up a lot since then. But it’s cool to see them enjoying the same things.
We’ll be sure to keep our eyes out for more of these community carnivals in the future, and hope you get a chance to try out a few, too!
