Sturdivent Park in Coquil, Oregon, of all the places we’ve stayed, was kinda weird. We’re no strangers to staying at state parks and campgrounds. This, however, was probably the first time we stayed at a park that was primarily a day-use facility, but allowed cheap dry camping.

Facilities

Sturdivent Park is primarily a day-use park and fishing staging area. The area has several porta-potties, play fields, and trash cans throughout. What makes it a little unique is that for $10 a night, you can dry camp anywhere in the park, as long as you’re not blocking roads. Because of this ad-hoc dual use, there isn’t a lot of campsite respect from the day users. Usually, people will make an effort to go around campsites. This leaves a buffer of space to respect the privacy of the campers. At Sturdivent Park, people will walk right next to your rig, park right off your rig, and camp close enough to share gossip over coffee without leaving your rig. However, for the cost and location, it’s a small price to pay.

While in the area, we took a day trip to the coast.

The park itself was peaceful and pretty. We were parked right next to the river, which was nice. Your experiences with other visitors will, of course, vary.

Amenities Around Sturdivent Park

While we didn’t stay long, Sturdivent Park is right outside a decently sized city, with easy access to anything you may need to make your trip successful. Access was easy, too, which is always nice when you’re only staying a couple of days.
