While there is no way to make this an all-inclusive list, and to date, my only experience camping is car camping, here is a list of campgrounds and places we’ve seen in Washington State and a little bit about them from our perspective.

Yakima Sportsman State Park

Our camping spot

Built around a bit of an oasis in the Yakima Valley, Yakima Sportsman State Park was an overnight stay when we ventured to Eastern Washington to see Hisey Park in Granger and the Stonehenge replica in Maryhill. Basic car camp setup with good privacy, but the bugs… my god the bugs.

The Carnage!!!

Maryhill Museum and Stonehenge

Our main reason for coming out this way was to see the Maryhill museum and the Stonehenge war memorial. The Museum was an interesting mix of local color, Romanian history, art, and a huge collection of chess and chess-like sets from around the globe. The Stonehenge war memorial was truly a sight though. Built as a memorial to the men from the area who fought and died in WW1 it is a near-perfect replica of the one in Europe. We visited shortly after Memorial Day and there were a collection of flowers and little shrines all over the grounds.

Granger Washington and Hisey Park

The Dinosaur town of Washington State! In an effort to boost tourism and revitalize main street, the little town of Granger started building dinosaur statues back in 1994. New ones are added every year and are all over the town! Such a fun community.

Silver Springs Campground

We visited this cozy little campground right off 410 on a whim last summer. When we were on our way to Eastern Washington we saw this place and wanted to give it a shot. The place was nearly full but it didn’t feel that way. Our site was right by the white river and the camp hosts were a delight to meet. Honestly, the only complaint was the water system was only working on one loop. However, considering the peace, the scenery, and the adventures the kids had, it wasn’t a concern.

Longbeach

We visited Longbeach this summer after Kid 2 expressed her joy in experiencing a tiny beach on a lake. Suffice to say, her mind was blown. Longbeach is a wonderful tourist town, with lots of flavor and a year-round carnival feel. Don’t miss the Festival of Kites if you can make it. We stayed at a resort called ”Chautauqua Resort”. Quaint and a little run down, the continental breakfast was not the best, but filled us up. The best part was the resort was right next to the beach, and a short drive into town.

There are a few more short trips to share, but I’ll save them for another post. Hopefully, I’ll bring a camera more often and share better views with you all. Until then, don’t do anything you’d be afraid to tell me about.
